Product Description
Hi. You probably know my face having glasses. I’ve worn them since I was 2 years old. I’m severely far sighted, and badly near sighted. I was born that way. Corrective lenses have helped me have 20/30 vision, but I still have other issues such as glare from lights and migraines triggered from light and eye strain. I have lived with a persistent headache every day since I was a child. I was never a candidate for LASIK due to the extreme nature of my astigmatism. To make matters worse, I had an eye infection in my late 20s that scarred my right cornea so badly, that I can’t read at all. At my last eye exam, my doctor suggested that I might be eligible for a lens replacement surgery. However, insurance will not cover that procedure at my age because my cataracts aren’t severe enough, and the minimum age for that surgery according to insurance underwriters, is 65. However, he said LASIK might be a solution. I was curious because the technology 30 years ago would not have been very effective. I got a referral to a cornea specialist and they showed me the mapping of my eye and explained that the technology has improved to a level of precision that would help me. Insurance doesn’t cover LASIK. I hate asking. I especially feel like my ask is not for a life threatening condition and I have watched so many friends suffer and even die the past few years, and I would rather help them. But I want this, not for vanity, but for quality of life. I am not getting younger. I can’t see well enough to do many aspects of my job. I can’t see my loved ones’ faces with clarity. I can’t read subtitles on TV even on a very large screen. And I would need thousands of dollars (progressive lenses, sunglasses, reading glasses, etc) worth of eyeglasses every year just to maintain my current state of vision as I age. For the first time in my life, my prescription has changed, and it’s changing every year as I get older. This is a normal effect of aging eyes. This would allow me to buy corrective lenses for a small fraction of the current rates because I wouldn’t need high index or special coatings. I’m not poor, but I’m finding that I’m needing more healthcare as I get older, and I am tired of having to decide I can’t afford a new pair of glasses this year, even with eye insurance. I have secured a loan to pay for the LASIK which I hope will buy me 15 or more years of comfort before I look into cataract surgery. I am not terribly looking forward to paying the interest on the loan. So I’m asking for help. It’s not a lot of money, but it’s a lot for one person to manage. Thank you for any consideration, and I will always be grateful for you for being an important part of my life no matter what.
