On August 19th, Nathan’s life hung in the balance after a sudden pulmonary embolism that caused severe and life-threatening complications. Since then, he has battled severe unstable and fluctuating blood pressure, kidney failure, and cognitive struggles. He has been in the ICU since being admitted in Maryland. Nate was dependent on a ventilator until just last Friday, the 29th. 24/7 dialysis was also required, but now he has transitioned to receiving it less frequently. This is a treatment he will now need for the rest of his life. Nathan’s medical journey started with a 30% chance of survival, but by the grace of God, we have witnessed miracles in his recovery so far. His road to recovery remains uncertain, long, and difficult. Nathan has always been a light in the lives of others. If you know Nate, you know he’s a strong-willed, dog-loving goofball who would do anything for his family. He is a beloved elementary school health teacher in the Washington, D.C., school district, where he is deeply admired by his students, colleagues, and community. He is a source of joy and guidance to his students. Nate is also a respected member of his church and a devout Christian. Due to all of his family living out of state, we are trying to transport him closer to home as soon as he is stable enough. Insurance will not be covering all the required expenses. As his family, we are humbly asking for support to help cover his overwhelming medical, pharmaceutical, and living expenses during this critical time. Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward easing the financial burden of his ongoing care and allowing us to direct our focus to him and his healing.
