Product Description
Leo is my great-nephew. He is 6 months old and has recently been diagnosed with cancer. We are seeking assistance with the overwhelming medical expenses involved in his care and cure. Leo is a beautiful, wide-eyed 6-month-old baby boy. He is happy and easy-going, just like his parents, Genevieve and Sean. He loves cruising on his floatie in the swimming pool or bouncing in his Daddy’s arms in the ocean waves. He loves cuddling with Mommy or just sitting quietly in her lap. Leo is calm and attentive, easily taking in everything around him. He welcomes the attention of his older cousins, who love to talk with him, tickle him, bring him toys, and cuddle with him. Leo enjoys lying on his tummy, pushing himself up with his arms, and is starting to pull his legs forward, soon to be on all fours and crawling. While visiting family in Atlanta, GA in mid-August, Leo’s parents noticed blood in his diaper. Immediately, Gen and Sean took Leo to Arthur M. Blank Children’s Hospital, where, after several tests, he was diagnosed with a kidney tumor. His kidney was removed, and the tumor was diagnosed as Wilms Tumor. The pediatric oncology team told Gen and Sean that many more tests, followed by chemotherapy and radiation, would be necessary. Leo and family are now back home in Carrboro, NC. Leo is being cared for at UNC Hospital. More tests have revealed, as explained by his maternal grandmother, GG, “that he does not have Wilms Tumor, but unfortunately, has a rare and aggressive cancer, clear-cell sarcoma.” Gen continues to explain Leo’s diagnosis: The UNC oncology doctor confirmed that Leo will need chemotherapy and that they would like to delay radiation, if possible, until he’s older. We are really hoping that he does not need radiation because there are some potential later down the road issues. We are devastated. We’re trying to process all this information and take it day by day. For now, we’re just loving on Leo. Leo’s chemo port has been inserted. He’s had his first chemo treatment and has done very well. Leo is happy, as always! As Gen and Sean and their family begin to understand Leo’s serious cancer diagnosis, they are also beginning to comprehend the profound, immense medical expenses that will impact their family. Your financial support will mean the world to this remarkable family. We sincerely thank you for whatever contribution you can make. We extend our best wishes and gratitude to you.
