Hello, As most of you know my Daughter Nicolette has been legally blind since birth, No vision in left eye at all and no central vision in her right eye. Around 5 yrs old Nicolette’s left eye was causing her pain so we made a tough decision and had her eye removed. Due to Nicolette’s vision and her being premature she received Medicaid which was a blessing because that covered all her eye expenses. Fast forward to now She has been denied Medicaid and we are currently fighting with the state who say she is no longer “disabled” The only problem is Nicolette is due for a prosthetic eye “Ocular Shell” with out Medicaid that is our responsibility and it has a hefty price tag. Without the prosthesis her left eye will completely close which will cause some changes in her facial structure for example dropping on the left side etc. We did not expect to have to pay almost 5,000 for the prosthesis and quite frankly it breaks my heart that I can’t just make an appointment and whip open my wallet like it is nothing. One thing I hate is to ask for help but we really need it, Unfortunately I work a salaried job and have no way to get extra shifts to help towards this and as most of us are living paycheck to paycheck isn’t helping with saving enough money for eye expenses. The ocularist if outta network so even if I could get a little help from them it’s not possible until we pay for it up front and maybe get a small reimbursement. Nicolette and I decided we were gonna make some home made dog treats and sell them to help with the cost, unfortunately those dog treats I don’t believe are going to get us to our goal. We are asking if anyone would or could help us in any way possible . My sweet girl is at an age where she knows she’s different than others and although that usually doesn’t bother her, the pre teens are setting in and so are her emotions up and down with how she looks and feels about her self. A good friend said I am always willing to help others so there’s no reason to feel ashamed asking for help…. It takes a Village she says, and I’m just asking if our Village can help in any way
