My father has recently been admitted to the hospital in Haiti after suffering a stroke. On top of this, he is also battling a small hernia, tapeworms, and ongoing diabetes. He is alone, scared, and exhausted — and I am thousands of miles away, feeling helpless. We have been separated for 10 years now, waiting and hoping for the day we would finally reunite. A few years ago, in December, my father was only days away from his exit interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy. Tragically, the embassy was closed just before his interview, shattering our hopes of finally being together after so many years of waiting and following the legal process. There is no health insurance in Haiti, and the hospital is charging hundreds of dollars every day just to keep him admitted. This is an unbearable financial strain for my family here in the U.S., where we already work 50–60 hours a week across multiple jobs just to pay the bills. We know everyone is going through their own struggles, but this plea is made with the hope that I can see my father again — and that he can get the medical help he so desperately needs. From the bottom of my heart, I am asking for any support you can give. Every contribution, no matter the size, will bring us closer to easing his suffering and reuniting us with the father we have missed for more than a decade.
