My name is Pat Woods, and my family and I are putting together this fundraiser on behalf of my brother, Landon Woods, his wife Katie Woods, and their children, Logan (11) and Luca (9). On the morning of Sunday, May 18th, Katie Woods had a massive stroke in the family’s home. This tragic event was a result of a blood clot on the back right side of her brain. As a result, Katie has been in the Neurological ICU since that day and has a long road ahead of her. The stroke caused substantial swelling in her brain and resulted in two surgeries: one to remove the blood clot, and another to remove a portion of her skull in order to allow the brain to swell. At this time, the left side of her body is paralyzed. Katie is a fighter, and we hope to get her into the best rehabilitation center we can to ensure the fullest recovery possible.
Katie has been sedated and on a ventilator since the event, but as of May 27th, she is awake and able to breathe on her own without a ventilator. While she is not communicating verbally at this time, we are hopeful that this is a good step toward rehabilitation – but there’s a long way to go. With a lengthy ICU stay, multiple surgeries, rehabilitation, and accessibility enhancements to the family’s home to consider, we hope to collect funds to ensure that Katie and the entire family can focus solely on recovery and next steps.
