In January 2023, my daughter, Melinda Green Suit was rushed to the ICU due to a severe episode of epileptic and non-epileptic seizures. The root cause was a failing kidney. Since then, Melinda’s health has taken a heartbreaking and complicated turn. Doctors placed a pacemaker in her bladder, and after many months of hospitalizations and tests, it became clear: an autoimmune disease was behind it all.

On April 22, Melinda Green Suit’s life changed in an instant. What began as what seemed to be a simple scratch in her eye quickly escalated into a devastating diagnosis: optic neuritis, a rare and painful condition often linked to autoimmune disease. Within days, Melinda lost sight in her right eye — and soon after, her left eye was affected as well.

Despite multiple hospital stays at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, including aggressive treatments with steroids and antibiotics, doctors have been unable to determine the root cause of her condition. A lumbar puncture was performed in hopes of finding answers — but instead, it led to debilitating migraines and a painful spinal fluid leak, requiring an emergency blood patch.

Melinda is a dedicated chiropractor who tried to return to work, but her symptoms worsened, sending her back to the hospital with another relapse. Again, she was placed on heavy medications, and still, no long-term relief or answers.

She now must wait until August to see a neuro-optometrist specializing in her condition — a wait that feels agonizingly long as her vision and health continue to decline.

Melinda has always been a vibrant, caring professional who helped others through healing. Now she needs help herself. She’s facing mounting medical bills, loss of income, and daily challenges just to function — all while navigating a rare and painful disorder with no clear path forward.
