Support Courtney’s Mom’s Heart Treatment

Story

Hi, my name is Courtney and I’m reaching out asking for your support during a time of crisis for my mom, Lori Selander. She has advanced heart failure, which she has dealth with for many years, and her heart has recently taken a drastic turn. Right now, her heart has enlarged to the point that the valve can no long close properly, which in-turn means that her heart is not able to pump her blood very well. With her health declining so suddenly, we are now facing the very real possibility that she will need a heart transplant much sooner than we thought. She may also need a mechanical heart pump, known as a VAD (ventricular assist device), to keep her alive while she waits for a donor heart.

She has been working so hard to improve her health in recent years, including going to the gym on a consistent basis and working towards improving her diet. She has lost around 80 pounds and had actually decreased the regurgitation that was happening in her heart. This is one of the reasons that this sudden decline took us by suprise.

My mom is the only one in her household working right now, meaning she is their sole income. She is out of work for now (obviously) and will be for the foreseeable future. Her husband lost his job and is actively looking for emplyment. Her mother-in-law, who lives with them, is elderly and unable to work, so this situation is beyond difficult for them emotionally, physically, and financially.

The cost of treatment, medications, and procedures is overwhelming, and we are uncertain how much her insurance will cover. This is a time of unimaginable stress, both emotionally and financially, and we are humbly asking for your help.

Any donation, big or small, will go directly to covering her medical expenses, medications, and various household bills. Your generosity will help us keep them afloat during this incredibly challenging time.

We are so grateful for anything you can contribute, whether it’s a donation, sharing our story, or sending love and prayers. My mom has been so excited about being a first time grandmother, which has been a big motivator in getting healthy she desperately wants to be around to see her grandchild grow up. We know it’s going to be a long road, but we believe with your help, she will be able to receive the life-saving care she needs.
