Libby’s Fight Against Stage 4 Cancer

Dear friends, family, and generous supporters,

Two years ago, at the age of 35, Libby was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer, and was fast tracked to emergency surgeries to remove tumors with the hopes of slowing progression. After the surgeries, it was time for cranial radiation. Chemotherapy followed with some success of slowing progression… until it didn’t. Then we tried novel drug combos, then a clinical trial, more surgeries, more chemo, treatment after treatment, each step buying a little more time.

Metastatic CRC is a life-limiting illness with an average prognosis of 24 months. We quickly realized that the path forward was unknown yet expensive so we moved in with Libby’s parents to reduce cost and receive support. Dmitri pivoted away from his career to provide full-time caregiving, tapping into his savings. Reduced living expenses, Medicaid coverage, and support from our parents have allowed us to continue this fight beyond the prognosis, for just over two years now.

So the fight continues, but our resources are depleting and we’re becoming a greater financial burden on our families. Hence we are here humbly asking for support.

We have recently been able to rent a room from a friend, gaining much needed space, so this GoFundMe will primarily go towards living expenses (food, rent, utilities), as well as treatment-related travel costs. If there is a clinical trial that is a perfect fit but not covered by Medicaid, we will use these funds to move in that direction. Whatever happens, we will keep you updated and informed.
