Story

My name is Avi. I’m an American-Israeli, and my dear friend Morad is Palestinian.

Despite the labels that too often divide us, Morad and I are like brothers. He’s one of the most sincere, generous people I know—a devoted father, a skilled craftsman, and someone whose life’s mission has been to build bridges with the “other.”

Right now, his young son urgently needs surgery for a painful urological condition. Without health insurance, the family is facing this crisis alone. His son is in intense pain every time he relieves himself and wakes each night in tears.

Morad is a single father, and his children are the light of his life. He is currently carrying the financial burden of his entire extended family. Since the war began, his work permit was revoked, and with it, his ability to provide.

Morad never asked me—or anyone—for financial help. We met up this week, and I could see how broken he was. I promised him I’d do something. This fundraiser is my way of keeping that promise. He doesn’t even know I’m doing it.

Jewish, Muslim, Israeli, Palestinian—it doesn’t matter. No child should suffer like this. In a time and place so full of sorrow, this is one real, human problem we can solve.
