Story

If you know David, you already know the kind of light he brings into a room. For over 20 years, he’s dedicated his life to making others feel beautiful, seen, and valued—spending long hours behind the chair as a Master Stylist at Twiggs Salon in Wayzata, Minnesota. His hands have created countless transformations, not just in hair, but in confidence and joy. David has always gone above and beyond, often giving his time, energy, and talent to make sure his clients leave feeling better than when they walked in. His passion for his craft, paired with his warm heart, has made him beloved in the Twin Cities and far beyond.

But now, David needs our help.

In mid-April, David was hospitalized after having an uncommon complication of a routine outpatient procedure. Immediately after leaving the hospital he became extremely ill, and after being admitted just a few hours later, his condition quickly spiraled into something far more severe, he’s mostly been in a near critical state and faced a cascade of critical health challenges, leading to eventually requiring intensive care, multiple interventions, and even life-saving measures when a medical emergency led to respiratory failure. He was intubated, sedated, and placed under constant monitoring as his care team worked tirelessly to stabilize him. While hospitalized, David even suffered a very serious fall that led to him to have his face laceration sutured.

For weeks, David has been fighting through a painful and uncertain recovery. Though he has made remarkable progress, doctors have shared that it may be three to five months before he begins to feel like himself again. Even after discharge from the hospital, David will require ongoing rehabilitation and support to regain his strength and begin the long journey back to the life and work he loves.

Though David spent the past nine months sharing his artistry at Sloane’s Beauty Bar in the North Loop, life has a way of reminding us where we truly belong. When he was suddenly hospitalized, his family rallied around him without hesitation—stepping in to care for his clients, advocate for his health, and surround him with unwavering love. It was a beautiful and powerful reminder of what family really means.

In light of everything he’s endured, David has made the heartfelt decision to return to his roots at Twiggs Salon—the place where his career began and where his creative spirit has always felt most at home. When he is well enough to return behind the chair, he looks forward to reuniting with the salon family and community that has supported him through this journey.

Because David is self-employed and doesn’t have access to disability insurance, this unexpected medical crisis has left him without any type of income. While insurance is covers some of the hospital care, David is now facing mounting expenses such as medical bills, rent, utilities, daily living costs, and the financial strain of an extended recovery.

Thankfully, David’s incredible siblings have stepped in to help care for his clients and keep his spirit of service alive during his absence. And when the time is right, David will return to the place he’s always called home, Twiggs Salon, ready to continue doing what he loves.

In the meantime, we are humbly asking for your support.

If David has ever made you feel beautiful, lifted your spirits, or given you his time or compassion; please consider giving what you can to help him now. No amount is too small, and every gesture of kindness means the world.

David is deeply humbled by the love that surrounds him and would never ask for help himself. That’s why we, his closest friends and his family are reaching out on his behalf. He has given so much to others, and now it’s our turn to show him how much he’s cherished.

Thank you for loving David. Thank you for helping him heal.

With gratitude,

David’s Friends and Family
