Story
Devastatingly, Woody Mason was taken from his family, and the community who loved him, far too soon. The kindest of kind souls, Woody was a husband, father, dog-lover, volunteer, coach, teacher, and many other roles that his servant heart led him to.
My name is Shanna Milonas – my family and I are lucky to call the Mason’s friends for nearly 15 years. We, like you, are blown away by the loss of Woody. It is my hope that this Gofundme will help the family offset the unexpected veterinary, medical, and other expenses, as they start to find their footing in this next phase.
Woody’s family, but especially his wife Allison, and kids Joanna and Alex, took the most prominent spot in his heart. He would do anything for his kids, leading him to spend hundreds of hours in volunteer service to his kids’ school, Terramar Academy of the Arts, where he was loved by teachers, staff and the students. Playing walk-out songs for the girls’ softball team, DJ-ing for school dances and events, and serving as the PTSA president are only a few of the ways Woody shared his infectious personality with those around him.
Outside of their family life, Woody dedicated his time to his role as an instructor for Grand Canyon University’s College of Education, where he worked for over 12 years. He was loved by his co-workers and team, and most particularly his students, where he was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and dedication to their learning.
After 16 years at GCU, Allison was blessed with an incredible opportunity in Minnesota, which would also take them closer to their families. Woody was so excited for this move, and it was on the way to start their next chapter that this tragedy occurred. In addition to losing Woody, one of the family’s beloved dogs, Izzy, succumbed to her injuries. The two other dogs, Max and Otis, were injured and will need veterinary care. Max ran from the accident site and was lost for almost two days until miraculously being located by the local sheriff’s office.
In a new house, in a new state, and in a new job and schools, Allison, Joanna, and Alex are left with the incomprehensible task of learning how to move forward without their best friend, Woody.
The kindest of kind souls was taken from us too soon. Please help support this amazing family as they begin the process of healing in this unexpected and heartbreaking time.
