Short Story
United Kingdom
Dear Hummingbird Community and ,
We wanted to let you know about challenging times ahead for our organisation.
Over the last 18 months, acquiring funding for our services has been exceptionally difficult. There is now huge competition for small organisations like ours and we are not always able to keep up with much larger, better resourced organisations.
Unfortunately, due to several multi-year funding rounds coming to an end at the same time, a significant drop in successful funding applications and delays with hearing the outcome of several funding applications, it has left our organisation with a significant cash flow issue. Our difficulties mirror other small organisations right now who, like us, are having to relook at the services they run and consider what can keep going.
This is why we are reaching out to you, our , to ask for your support at a critical time for us and the future of our services.
In contrast to the financial issues. Our services are thriving . Global Social Club, our busiest service in welcoming between 30-48 young people a week, and we are seeing youth leadership being built up across all the services with youth empowerment key to all the work we do. We now have an in-house Clinical Psychologist (a partnership with Helen Bamber Foundation) so that any young person who accesses our services has the chance to be seen by a specialist to support them to recover from the trauma they have experienced .
We are so proud of all the work that’s happening within our services and that we are able to support and work alongside hundreds of young people each year.
We want to make sure we can keep our doors open to each and every one of them and believe we can with your help.
How You Can Make a Difference:
Your support is crucial . By contributing to The Hummingbird Refugee Project, you can help us sustain our support services for young refugees in Brighton and across Sussex.
Here are some examples of how your donation can make a meaningful impact:
£50 weekly room hire cost for one of our youth groups £200 monthly crisis fund for young people £500 interpreting costs for 1 year £1,800 rent costs per month
Additional Ways Your Donation Will Help:
Please do let people know that we are seeking support. Each person has a unique reach to some one who can help. We have seen that in the last few month.
Your Solidarity Matters:
Thank you so much for your compassion and generosity.
Should you wish to reach out and talk about other ways you would like to help with this campaign- please contact me directly.
