A safe shelter for vulnerable women and children on Lesvos
Greece
On the island of Lesvos- Greece, many women and children — both refugees and locals — are struggling. Some have lost their homes. Some have faced violence. Many are left out of public services and have nowhere safe to go.
Selamet is a small, community-based shelter where they can feel safe, supported, and part of something.
It was created by Lesvos Solidarity- LESOL, a local group that has been helping people on the island for over 10 years. The team is made up of both local and refugee women working side by side. Together, we try to make sure no one is left alone.
A safe place to live, for women with or without children
Mental health support, especially for those who have survived violence
Legal help with asylum, custody, housing, and protection
Essential items like hygiene kits, baby supplies, school materials
Language and computer classes at Mosaik, our education center
Supermarket vouchers so women can choose what they need
Community — shared meals, support, and connection
More and more people are being pushed out of refugee camps, and even in the camps the conditions are atrocious for single women and kids. Local women are waiting for services that don’t come. Big organizations have left, and public help is harder to find.
We’re doing what we can, but we’re a small team. Donations help us keep Selamet open and care for the women and children who need it.
When you donate, you’re helping someone:
Sleep safely
Feel supported
Learn, heal, and move forward
Be part of a caring community
We believe real change starts with people helping each other. That’s what Selamet is about.
Thank you for standing with us.
