In 2018 I rode my bike solo across Canada for Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and Foundation LaForce. This was a such a huge success and such an amazing experience that I’ve decided to do something just a bit bigger. Initially I had planned to ride solo across the USA in 2020 to raise funds and awareness for the Duchenne’s community. This however was scuppered by the global pandemic and as such, all plans for that ride had to be shelved.

So here we are in 2025 and after a few health scares and some surgery, there is still that burning desire to do something more. So to that end, I am undertaking to ride The Great Divide bike route from Banff, Alberta in Canada to Antelope Wells in New Mexico, USA…about 4400kms!!

We still need to raise significant awareness and funding for Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) around the world and much work still needs to be carried out to find a solution to this devistating disorder.

With your help and support I would like to continue to help Foundation LaForce and hope with this new venture that we can reach the wider community and promote the amazing work done by parents and families of Duchenne’s patients and promote what needs to be done by governments to help find answers and a possible cure for Duchenne’s.

Who am I and what am I doing?

My name is Bruce Babington and I am a UK trained osteopath working in Quebec, Canada.

For several years, I have been treating Anakin who was diagnosed at the age of 5 with Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy. To say it devastated his family is an understatement. To witness the strength and determination of their commitment to raise awareness and to help Anakin achieve as normal a life as possible has been inspiring. Anakin continues to inspire and push the boundaries of what is possible and has just graduated from High School this summer.

Since meeting Anakin, I now treat and work with a number of other young patients with this devistating disorder. It never ceases to amaze me the drive and determination that the parents have for their children and indeed the children themselves have in living with DMD. It is hard to understand how families cope with the diagnosis of a genetic disease such as DMD, let alone cope with the day-to-day organisiation of the numerous tests, appointments and medication that is required to deal with; let alone the normal daily routine that we all take for granted.

Foundation La Force was established to enable and unite the DMD community and to raise awareness around a common objective of providing access to new information and treatments as fast as possible and to participate in the funding of promising research.

In July/August of 2018 I cycled across Canada from Mont Tremblant to Vancouver in order to raise as much money and awareness as possible. The distance was just a little under 6000km.

I am pleased to report that the trip was extremly successful and after leaving Mont Tremblant on the 8th July, I reached Prospect Point, Stanley Park, Vancouver on the 6th August – exactly 29 days and right on schedule!

I would like this next trip to be an even greater success and want to continue to raise more and more funds.
