Cameron’s Journey: Kicking Ewing’s Sarcoma Cancer and Returning to the Pitch

Hello, I’m Cindy Loehr and I would like to introduce you to my amazing grandnephew, Cam. While I live in metro Denver, Cam and his mom and sister live in Shakopee, MN.

Cameron Wetch began playing soccer at age 7 in a YMCA league. Moving up through the ranks, Cam was on the pitch, living his best life. His love for the game of soccer is indisputable. As a talented, center back midfielder playing for Minnesota Thunder Academy in the Elite Club National League, Cam was relishing his time on the team, enjoying the challenge of the game, the comaraderie of his teammates, and building his skills, confidence, and sportsmanship as a footballer.

Last September, his journey took an unexpected fall on his scooter. A trooper, Cam withstood the pain of the fall, for a number of weeks, but when the pain didn’t subside, his mom, Aimee, took him into the doctor. Fortunately, his doctor was thorough. Unfortunately, there were some unusual finding on his MRI and subsequent x-Rays.

In early December, 2024, Cam was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer that primarily affects children, adolescents, and young adults, and requires long term treatment. He is hoping this diagnosis will only temporarily sideline him, and his spirit remains unbroken as he is determined to get back on the pitch with his amazing teammates and coaches. Cam has bee receiving chemotherapy since December and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and proton radiation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Cameron is not just any ordinary teenager; he’s a passionate soccer player with dreams of making it to the professional league. While this is a challenging time for him and his family, there is an opportunity for all of us to come together and help Cameron kick cancer out of his life. Cam’s mom, Aimee, and sister, Lexi, are receiving incredible day to day support from his family, and his teammates’ families, but unfortunately kicking cancer is quite costly. His family must travel back and forth from Shakopee, (SW of the Twin Cities) to Rochester, approximately 90 miles one way numerous times during the week.

We are asking for your help. Aimee is spinning many plates at a time, being an amazing single mom of two amazing kids, staying strong in the midst of a mom’s worst nightmare. We hope to enlarge the scope of community support with this fundraiser.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a huge difference in this difficult time.

Funds raised will help his family with medical bills, travel costs, meals, long term cancer treatment, and other unexpected bills and will go directly to Aimee, Cam’s mom. Community plays a crucial role in Cameron’s journey to recovery.

Additionally, we ask that you send Cameron positive energy & prayers, and please share this page with others who may be able to help. Through the power of community, we can allow his family to focus on Cameron’s care. Thank you so much for your consideration and prayers for Cam, his family, and his excellent team of caregivers.
