We welcomed Lillian Clare Devine to the world on August 26th at 8:41 AM. After a miraculously smooth birth, they discovered that she was having trouble with her oxygen levels, and this led to further testing on her heart. They found that she has coarctation of the aorta and will need surgery within the next few days. She was airlifted to Children’s Hospital last night, and we are currently settled. She is stable, and we are waiting to learn when the procedure will happen. Although this is more difficult than anything we could have imagined, God’s hand has been so incredibly present in this entire process. The fact that they caught this issue is a miracle, and she is in the most caring and attentive hands. I have had several dear friends asking what they can do for us, and first and foremost, we just ask for prayer. There is NOTHING more valuable to us during this time! We also have a GoFundMe available to help with food and transportation, as we are unsure how long we will be in Denver for this procedure and her road to recovery. The message of Psalm 91 reminds us that God is near and that our Lily is in His mighty and providential care. Our pastor reminded us that while He knit her together in the womb, she is just requiring a little more now that she is in our arms. “Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.” — Psalm 91:9–12
