On June 27th, our beautiful child Mars Z. Watkins—affectionately known as Miracle Mars—entered the world at home, surrounded by love. Minutes later, that joy turned into a fight for his life. Mars truly lives up to his name—he is out of this world. His journey is unlike anything most will ever witness. He was born with two extremely rare, life-altering genetic conditions: Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS) – about 1 in 200,000 births. Mars’s brain doesn’t automatically tell his body to breathe. He can only breathe if he consciously thinks about it, and even then, his breaths are too shallow to sustain him. He currently depends on a ventilator around the clock to keep his oxygen levels safe. Hirschsprung Disease – about 1 in 5,000 births. In Mars’s case, it is far more severe. After weeks of testing in the NICU, a major surgery revealed total intestinal aganglionosis—no nerve cells in his entire small or large intestine. Right now, his digestive system cannot function on its own, and he receives all of his nutrition through a central IV line (TPN). A Continuing Journey — and Our Blessing in the Battle CCHS and total intestinal aganglionosis require complex, ongoing care. Mars will continue to rely on specialized equipment, nutrition support, and close medical monitoring. While there is currently no known cure, medical teams around the country are collaborating on ways to improve his quality of life. With the right resources, Mars can leave the hospital, experience the world beyond four walls, and inspire breakthroughs that help other children facing rare conditions. We are blessed that Mars is receiving care at Arthur M. Blank Hospital for Children—a state-of-the-art, nationally recognized facility in Georgia where cutting-edge medicine meets relentless compassion. Without this hospital’s expertise and technology, his chances of stability would be far lower. Miracle Mars — By the Numbers 1 in 200,000 – births worldwide with CCHS 1 in 5,000 – births with Hirschsprung Disease Fewer than 5 – known cases worldwide with both conditions and total intestinal aganglionosis 24/7 – ventilator support to keep his breathing safe 100% – reliance on IV nutrition (TPN) instead of eating by mouth 1 – North Star: Getting Miracle Mars home Why Your Support Matters Your generosity helps cover: Urgent, life-saving surgeries Ongoing NICU care The complex transition home with 24/7 nursing Essential medical equipment and family support Every gift—no matter the size—brings Mars closer to home, where he can grow, smile, and be surrounded by love. How You Can Help Donate: Every dollar makes a difference. Share: Help Mars’s story reach more hearts. Pray: Your faith and encouragement keep us going. This is not just a fight for one boy—it’s proof that even the rarest battles can be met with love, innovation, hope and faith. Together, we can give Miracle Mars the chance to explore a world beyond hospital walls and inspire possibilities for generations to come. With gratitude, Mars’ Family
