Kay, my best friend, was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. As she prepares to begin treatment, her oncology team has strongly recommended fertility preservation—a time-sensitive procedure to harvest and freeze her eggs. This step is crucial to give Kay the chance to have biological children in the future, but unfortunately, fertility preservation is not typically covered by insurance and the cost must be paid upfront. This has placed an enormous financial burden on Kay and her family at an already overwhelming time. Kay’s family and friends are doing everything we can to support her through her cancer journey. We want to ensure she has every opportunity for a healthy future, including the possibility of starting a family when she’s ready. Those of you who know Kay know how amazing she is. For those of you who may not know her personally, she is one of the most selfless people you will ever meet. Kay walks into a room and energizes it. She is the person who instantly becomes family after one conversation. Her sense of humor and ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face, even in the toughest moments, is unmatched. After recently moving back home from Alabama, this diagnosis was the last thing any of us expected. We are asking for support to help cover the expenses of her fertility preservation.
