My nephew, Yan Mascarenhas, is only 24 years old and facing the biggest battle of his life. Yan is a very kind young man. Raised by his mom and surrounded by love, faith, and family, he has always been a source of joy. He is the only son, but never alone — with many cousins by his side, he grew up in a strong and supportive family. Recently, Yan had been pursuing his dream at technical school, studying full-time to become a mechanic. He had never been happier, finally building a better future for himself and his mom. But just a year and a half into that journey, cancer came and nearly destroyed all his dreams. He had to cancel his summer course and was unable to enroll for fall. Now, his future is on hold until he can get the treatment he needs. Two months ago, Yan found a lump that led to weeks of uncertainty, multiple doctors’ visits, and surgery. After the operation, we received devastating news: stage two cancer. Yan had to take out a credit card loan just to pay for the surgery, believing that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, the pathology results revealed he now needs five cycles of chemotherapy to fight this aggressive illness. Each cycle costs about $7,500, and before beginning treatment, he must undergo one last lung test costing $2,400. So far, Yan and his mom have already spent nearly $10,000 on doctor visits, imaging, labs, and surgery. Without insurance and with no financial assistance available from Sylvester, Jackson Memorial, or Broward General, the costs are overwhelming. ⸻ Fundraising Goal: $45,000 This amount will cover: • $10,000 already spent on surgery, doctors, labs, and imaging • $2,400 for the lung test required before chemotherapy • $37,500 for 5 cycles of chemotherapy ($7,500 each) ⸻ Despite the fear and hardship, Yan continues to face this with incredible strength and faith. But he cannot do it alone. We are asking our friends, family, and community to come together to help Yan get the urgent treatment he needs. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to ensuring he has a chance at recovery and a future free from cancer — and back to pursuing the dreams he worked so hard for. ✨ Please consider donating or sharing this page. Your support means the world to Yan and our family during this difficult time. Thank you for standing with him. First off, we want to thank everyone who has donated and shared Yan’s story. Your love and generosity continue to lift him and our family in this journey. UPDATE: We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the love and support you’ve shown Yan ” We want to let everyone know what the next steps will be. Yan will be scheduling his pulmonary lung test along with a FeNO test — together, these will add about $2,400 in costs, as they must be done in the hospital facility. We are hopeful this will happen next week. After this exam, Yan will begin his first chemotherapy treatment. The plan is five consecutive days of treatment, followed by an eight-day break, then another cycle, followed by a 15-day break, and so on. This is a very invasive treatment, and we ask everyone to please keep Yan in your prayers during this difficult process. After the first round, his doctor will re-evaluate and let us know the next plan. Again, we are so deeply thankful for our friends, family, and community. Your prayers, donations, and shares are making all the difference.
