Dear Friends of Mary Beth, I may technically be Mary Beth’s boss, but more than that, I am a long-time admirer and friend of this remarkable woman. Although I’m writing with her consent, you can imagine how difficult this is for Mary Beth. She is someone who has always been the helper, the safety net for others. To now be in a position of needing support is overwhelming. For years, Mary Beth has lifted up our community…mentoring and encouraging youth, feeding families in need, and showing up time and again as a leader and friend across the plateau region. Today, I’m reaching out to ask for support for this extraordinary woman, a true pillar of compassion, strength, and service. An Unexpected Diagnosis Recently, Mary Beth was diagnosed with kidney cancer after sudden and debilitating pain sent her to the ER. What she thought might be gallbladder trouble quickly revealed something far more serious. After weeks of testing, doctors confirmed the cancer had spread, requiring a complex surgery and an intensive treatment plan. Her surgery is scheduled for this week, followed by immediate immunotherapy. The urgency has left her with little time to prepare…not just emotionally and physically, but financially. To make matters even more difficult, just days ago her husband Tracy (who also provides the family’s health insurance) unexpectedly lost his long-time job as a chef. In a single moment, their financial security was shaken. And yet, through it all, Mary Beth has kept her radiant smile and her sense of humor. She’s even given her tumor a name: “Linda.” Let’s all be clear, good-bye Linda. Urgent Need for Support With surgery just days away, the Holmes family is facing: Drastically increased insurance premiums Rising out-of-pocket medical expenses Ongoing household bills The emotional toll of fighting cancer under enormous financial stress This is a family that has always given freely and without hesitation.
