It’s been an emotional roller coaster since transplant day. While Bethany’s surgery was successful, complications arose with very low blood pressure and blood clots in the donor organs. Sadly, the donor pancreas did not survive and had to be removed. The kidney transplant has also been a challenge. Doctors were planning to remove it, but with two-thirds of the organ still functioning, there is hope that it may begin working enough to allow Bethany to eventually come off dialysis. Right now, the outcome is uncertain, and we are praying for healing and strength. Bethany has been in the ICU since Saturday, but there is a possibility she will be transferred to the transplant floor this afternoon. If all continues to go well, she may be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. Bethany and Colleen will need to remain at Mayo Clinic and in the Rochester area for an unknown amount of time as she continues recovery, but for now, their focus is fully on her care and healing. We are asking for support to help ease these financial burdens so Bethany can focus on her health and the journey ahead. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference.
