While on vacation in Japan with our family, my mother, Eun Sung Cho, suddenly suffered a life-threatening brain hemorrhage (subarachnoid hemorrhage). She was rushed into emergency surgery, which thankfully saved her life. She will remain in the hospital for at least three more weeks as doctors closely monitor her for possible complications such as stroke, infection, and her ability to walk and regain independence. This is a long road to recovery, and she needs continued care. Because we do not have travel insurance, the surgery and hospitalization costs are estimated to be $70,000–$80,000 out-of-pocket. This unexpected crisis has placed an overwhelming financial burden on our family. My mother is one of the kindest, hardest-working people I know. She has always put her family and others before herself, and now she needs our support more than ever. I am endlessly grateful that she survived this ordeal, and I am asking for help to cover her medical expenses so that we can focus on her recovery without the crushing stress of debt.
