Hello, I’m Julia, and I am the aunt of a super brave, kind-hearted, thoughtful and super tough 13-year-old boy named Flynn. Flynn is courageously facing a battle no kid should have to fight. He and his family just moved to California from Utah on Saturday morning- leaving behind friends, family and the only home he has ever known- ready for a new adventure. Not even a day later after making such a life changing move was when they received more life changing and shocking news: Flynn has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL Type B). Last week Flynn had been experiencing pain all over his body, presented with bruising and had lost his appetite. Last Saturday, after driving all day to California, Flynn felt the pain in his chest was reaching a boiling point. At 1:30 am, mere hours after arriving to his new home, his mother took him to the ER where his father, a dedicated ER nurse, works. A chest CT ruled out any possible injuries, but bloodwork revealed a far greater challenge. Rushed to Roseville, Flynn met an oncology team who confirmed his diagnosis. He is now preparing for surgery to receive a port and begin intensive chemotherapy—a 2.5-year journey that will leave him weak and highly susceptible to infections but with the hope that Flynn will be cured! The road ahead is daunting. Imagine trying to settle into your new home, make new friends, find places to attend school and shop after discovering your child has cancer. Hospital protocol requires Flynn to stay within an hour of the medical facility, but his family’s new home is 90 minutes away. Having just relocated, they now face the urgent need to find a closer place to live for the next month, all while grappling with the cost of moving and of California living as well as mounting medical expenses. No parent should have to face these types of burden alone. Please consider helping this amazing boy who truly deserves all the love and support he can get.
