As many of you know, during my battle with stage 3 colon cancer, I was also diagnosed with Myelofibrosis which is a rare Terminal Bone Marrow Cancer. After 2.5 year of ongoing medical treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center (this would be equivalent to Mayo Clinic) the doctors have determined the treatments they have tried are not working. There is only one option left for possible survival and that is a Bone Marrow Transplant. This comes with very high risks. They will start with radiation to shrink my spleen which is very enlarged due to the cancer. I will then be in the hospital undergoing 7 days of extreme, intense chemotherapy at its highest doses. This is to remove all bone marrow from my body. This will wipe out my entire immune system. The doctors nicely informed me this will be complete HELL. They will then do the Bone Marrow Transplant. They are in the beginning stages of finding a donor. I will be quarantined and in the hospital for 30-45 days after the transplant. I will then have to find a place to stay within 30 miles of Moffitt Cancer Center for the first 100 days with a 24/7 care giver. I will be unable to do most things for myself during recovery including driving to my daily visits to the Cancer Center. I currently live 2.5 hours away from Moffitt Cancer Center. There are too many risks involved in this procedure to list. The full recovery time is 1 year and that is if you can get past all the risks. Asking for help is not easy, but due to the upcoming medical and living expenses from a Bone Marrow Transplant a significant financial challenge is being faced. A fund raiser has been set up here. I will be starting a savings account with all donations, so I am able to fund the medical and living expenses that I am going to be facing over the next year.
