This is my mom, JoAnne. She has touched so many lives in Springfield—maybe through her decades of being a tailor, through church, or just being blessed to know her kind and giving soul! A year ago, she was climbing mountains in Colorado and had a travel plan bucket list to so many places. She is in her late 70s, but so active and full of life! A year ago, she started having strange symptoms. After months of Springfield doctors dragging their feet slowly between each appointment, she was finally diagnosed with a highly aggressive bladder cancer. By the time we finally got her to REAL care with Barnes and Siteman Cancer Center in STL, the cancer had invaded the bladder wall and metastasized to her lymph nodes and cervix. Barnes is considered out-of-network care, so she is required to pay a 20% copay for very expensive treatments. As you may know, she was still working (and still is sometimes, as she can tolerate), but she’s lost a lot of income. I hate that we live in a country where she has to pay thousands of dollars a year for life-saving treatments, but there’s no way we’re not getting her to the best care possible. She wants to fight for her life! So many people have asked us how they can help because my mom is the sweetest person in the world and well-loved by family, friends, acquaintances, and former clients. However, my mom is just not comfortable accepting help from others. She still wants to take care of all of us! But she has given me permission to post this. To ask you all, if you’d like to help, the one thing she really could use is your help to pay her copays. We are also considering getting her to a few of those bucket list travel plans if possible. Anything is appreciated. $5 would mean the world to her that someone would consider contributing to her fight.
