Product Description
As some of you know, Shannon and I have a 19 year old daughter, Mayson Gibson, who was diagnosed with Metastatic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma in early April. She underwent a 6 hour long surgery for a complete thyroidectomy and a left neck dissection on May 30 at Rush University. In addition to her thyroid, they removed one parathyroid and 49 lymph nodes. The surgery was successful, but the amount of cancer in her neck was far more extensive than anyone expected. There were also some major complications as the cancer was wrapped so tightly around her jugular vein and vocal cords. We couldn’t be more grateful that the surgery was done when it was, because it saved her life (in more ways than one) and her voice. She wasn’t expected to be able to speak indefinitely after surgery, but from the second she opened her eyes, she was talking. She spent 2 days in the hospital, left on no pain medications and continued to heal amazingly well. Less than a week post-op, she began hormone therapy with Fertility Centers of Illinois for her egg retrieval. After 3 weeks of daily injections, ultrasounds, blood work and a successful retrieval, we now have 6 frozen grandbabies! And finally, one week after that, she started the radioactive iodine treatment/ablation at Elmhurst hospital and was completed at the end of July. During the treatment, she had 2 scans done to make sure the cancer had not spread and that the radioactive iodine was where it was supposed to be. And that brings us to today. Fortunately, it has not spread anywhere else in her body, but after review of the scans and follow-ups, it has been determined that the cancer has spread to the right side of her neck with full lymph node involvement. She has an appointment on August 22 to discuss the next steps for further treatment. Overall, Mayson has been handling this extremely well, but it’s been the hardest time of her life and she has suffered so much throughout all of this. The very real possibility of her having to do this all over again is devastating, but she is a fighter and will get through whatever comes next. As this was unexpected, she will continue to need some financial help in order to win this fight. To help with this cause, HellsGate Haunted House in Lockport is graciously allowing us to host a Movie Night Benefit on Friday, August 29 at 3101 Canal St in Lockport IL. HellsGate will be donating all gate fees and profits from the bar and snack shack. Gates open at 6pm and the movie will begin at 7pm . Snacks and drinks are available for purchase and bring your chairs and blankets! Suggested entry donation is $10, cash or Zelle is preferred, but HellsGate will have a credit card machine if needed. Come have some family friendly spooky fun with us for a great cause! I hope to see you all there! Thank you all so much
