We have had some severe hardships lately. We had my wife’s service dog flip his stomach and had $5000 of ER bills to get him back. My wife had a severe back injury at work and has work comp, but it’s reduced income. On top of all of that I have started to have 7-10 Basilar Migraines a day which put me in the ER and my doctors will not allow me to drive until these clear, which has put me out of work for the time being.

Let me go into more detail and explain everything.

What happened to Vincent? My wife is disabled but manages to work as an Emergency Veterinary Nurse for a ER and Speciality Med Veterinary Hospital and as a Teacher. Her Service Dog Vincent is her lifeline to keep her from having severe migraines and hypoglycemic seizures. About four weeks ago he had a GDV event, which is when their stomach twists. This is an extremely life threatening event and if not caught immediately very frequently ends in death. We rushed him to the ER, he had emergency surgery, and survived the procedure. The total bill was over $5000.

What happened to my wife? My wife was at work and a client rushed their dog in and the ER was slammed, she ran outside and the dog was in the backseat of a car. It was a 75lb Goldendoodle, she knew she needed to rush the dog in. While picking the dog up out of the car she had to twist and she felt a crack and a pop in her back, she collapsed. She had to get the owner’s help to get the dog into the clinic but could barely walk afterwards. She possibly ruptured a disc in her back and is going through treatment now. Workman’s compensation is covering it so far but we have lost a portion of her wages.

What happened to me? I work as a Emergency Services Dispatcher, I had a severe sinus infection that I sought treatment for. The doctor gave me Augmentin to treat it. I told the doctor that I had reactions to Augmentin in the past but the doctor said to take it anyways. About 3 days later I was at work and I started missing chunks of time and memory, which was extremely problematic when I am on calls. My supervisor started noting my mistakes and was sitting with me. Then I noticed my face was on FIRE. I looked at my supervisor and he said to go look in the mirror immediately. I was having a severe allergic reaction to the medication and they sent me back to the clinic immediately. They gave me a shot and some new meds and I thought this was over.

Over the weekend I started to notice that I was still having issues thinking, missing time, missing memory, and my wife noticed that I seemed to just stop responding and reacting to things. On Sunday I had an event where my brain felt like it got hit by lightning and I fainted. I got a severe migraine afterwards I took some medication and went to bed hoping it would end. Monday morning I collapsed again getting out of bed.

My doctors said go to the ER immediately. I went in, got some IV meds, got a CT scan, everything looked ok and they sent me home. But the lapses just kept coming and I missed our dog barking at me, I had to check video footage and saw I was just “zoned” and I have no recollection of it. Upon seeing my doctor again she ran some neurological tests and my vision is affected and my balance, and when I an having an event my cognition is incredibly slow. They believe one of the arteries in my brain is being pinched and that when I exert myself it is pinching off more causing my brain to function improperly. I go for a MRA next week to confirm.

So far just the ER bill with the CT is $2700, that’s after insurance. Not to mention a full three weeks I have missed work.

On top of that we are being forced out of our home, I can’t speak much about it due to legal reasons but we had to find a new house, which we spent every bit of our savings on the deposit and they want the first month’s rent a month early so we have two rent payments on July 1st. We are sinking in debt and we don’t have enough coming in. Please help us in any way you can. We thank every single one of you for anything you can do. We have started selling anything we have extra and are scrounging for every penny.

UPDATE:

My Wife has now been diagnosed with Addison’s Disease, is going to need treatment for the rest of her life. I am still undergoing massive amounts of tests to try to find out what exactly is happening to me. I still cannot drive and neither can she so we cannot work still.

Short Term Disability still hasn’t paid out and we are still struggling to pay our bills and the medical bills are just stacking up and we can’t afford to even start paying them. We have no savings, no credit, we need all the help we can get.
