Hello Friends and dearest supporters. In the pursuit of being transparent about where your generous donations have been going I wanted to write this little ***update about how I am going paying my medical bills. Also it’s been about 1 month since chestfest.
Things are going well and although this pre surgery time is typically stressful it doesn’t seem to be out of proportion with other mates who have had or are in the midst of doing the surgery thing. As for the money side of things I have [PAID] my Surgeon. This came to $4,700.00 and I used chestfest money and a dash of cash from my day job. I’m feeling super relieved that the largest expense is out of the way. 10 mins ago I paid my Anaesthetist fee ($2,480.00) using funds from Chuffed! Thank you everyone <3 The bulk of the fee's are out of the way and it's just the $3,014.00 hospital fee on the day of admission, August 23rd. I've thankfully secured a loan of $1,500 bringing me really close to actually having all the necessary $$$. I'm chuffed™ to only have to fundraise a final $1,500. Recently I've also picked up bit and bobs of editing work to make up for some of the loss of wages during recovery. Thinking and looking at it all layed out like this really wigs me out. When I booked the surgery I only had exactly the funds nessisary for the deposit, being close to having everything settled is a warmly welcomed feeling. I'm 7days out from going under. Couldn't be more thankful for the support. Thoughts and feelings can always be emailed to me at [email protected] My name is Emmett and I'm a trans masculine person and aspiring filmmaker living in Naarm (Melbourne). In late 2012/early 2013 I started my social transition and around the same time I started 'binding'. For folks who aren't aware, binding can be done in many ways but for me it exists as a morning ritual. In pursuit of a flat-ish chest, I get up and struggle into a elactisized black crop top that would ordinarily be considered three sizes too small. As you might expect, wearing an elasticized-crop-top-that-should ordinarily-be-considered-three-sizes-too-small for 5 + years has had its fair share of issues. I've been physically struggling for at least the last 12 months wearing my Bindemittel (a scary German word for binder) full time. Full time binding has caused me headaches, back problems, restricts my breathing and has periodically led to low energy levels. However not wearing the binder causes anxiety and puts my safety at risk. Top surgery seems to be the most plausible option for me to charge ahead with a regular life, however the surgery comes at an enormous cost. To put things into context, the price of this surgery makes up around half of my annual income. Ontop of this crowdfunding campaign I put alot of time towards planning and running an event 'CHESTFEST', where I where I made $4356.62 of my surgery costs. My surgery costs include... Surgery fee: $4700.00 [PAID] Anaesthetist fee: $2,500.00 Hospital fee: $3,014.00 So $10 214.00 of upfront expenses. Other expenses are the consult fee, pyc fees, dressings/meds during recovery on top of loss of wages during recovery. I understand that many other folks are experiencing their own forms of marginalization & financial barriers. If you’re keen to support but cannot do so financially, there are other ways you can help and a big one is of course sending this on to networks and friends. Every single donation & effort to support my fundraising means a lot <3 Est. Delivery Date: August 0 claimed 1 left Est. Delivery Date: August 0 claimed 1 left Est. Thanks for donating and sharing my fundraiser. There have been so many incredible friends to me lately. As you can tell I'm still sore and emotional, all the more reason to be overtly thankful. Bless this mess I just want to make clear that even though I did not make the full amount via fundraising, fundraising was still the main source of finances for the most important bills (Surgeon and anesthetist). Had I not paid those I wouldn't have been allowed to check in at the hospital and that's thanks to you! A huge weight had been lifted when I knew it was going to go ahead and from there have borrowed money to dot the i's and cross the t's. IOU 1x very boob free hug. See you in three weeks when my nips are less on fire. Will be mailing/or delivering perks in the next few days.
