Fighting Cancer With a Dream to be Parents

Hi, we’re Samantha and Cody Baker. We never thought we’d be in this position, but today we’re asking for your help and prayer in our time of greatest need.

In November of last year we suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. It was one of the most painful experiences of our lives. We were devastated, but we held onto hope that one day we would get another chance to have a baby.

During a scan Samantha got while experiencing the miscarriage, the doctor found a large 15cm ovarian cyst on her left ovary. We did not have insurance at the time as we were both independent contractors. Despite this, we proceeded with the surgery to remove the cyst and left ovary in hopes that it would lead to a successful pregnancy in the future. Then, just one month later, our world was shattered again.

When the cyst biopsy came back, at just 33 years old, Samantha was diagnosed with grade-3 ovarian cancer, an aggressive type of cancer that will require PET-scans, biopsies, a second surgery with a possible hysterectomy and chemotherapy. Instead of planning for our baby that was due in June, we are now fighting for Samantha’s life and any chance of future children.

We are currently facing a mountain of medical bills for life-saving treatment, including:
• Major surgery (quoted at 3K down, 7K in total)
• Multiple rounds of chemotherapy (quoted $9-15K per treatment, total of $27-45K)
• Egg retrieval and preservation (Quoted $9-21K with IVF quoted $10-20K)
• Ongoing scans and lab work (Quoted $1-4K)
• Holistic treatments (quoted $40-100K)
• Current Medical debt (approximately $35-40K)

We’ve already drained our savings and maxed out credit cards just trying to keep up. The financial pressure is enormous, but even harder is the emotional weight of possibly losing both Samantha and our chance to become parents. Which, if you know Samantha, then you know that her call to teaching stems from her love for children and her desire to be a mother one day.

We also of course are asking for prayer. We trust that God is with us through this hardest trial and know He can do miracles. We cling to Psalms 37:4 and Jeremiah 29:11. Please join us in prayer and fasting in this time.

Your donation will help cover the massive cost of medical treatments and fertility preservation. Every dollar helps ease this financial burden. No amount is too small. We know that the goal amount posted is high. We are basing this off of our current medical bills and the upcoming procedures even with insurance now and hopefully egg retrievals we have been quoted.
