Israa Shakshak explains their situation below:
We are the Shakshak family consisting of father Hassan, mother Israa and three children: Mira, 8 years old, Aisha, 6 years old, and Fakhri, 3 years old. Hassan was working as an engineer in a telecommunications company, but due to the war he lost his job and became unemployed. We need donations to cover our daily living expenses. At the beginning of the war, we were displaced to the southern Gaza Strip. We were displaced more than 12 times, moving and living in a tent. During this war, we lost our home, which was completely destroyed due to the occupation, and we became homeless refugees. We lost everything we had in the house, everything: furniture, clothes, kitchen utensils, all the means of livelihood, stability, safety, security and love that existed in the house. Now we live in a tent under harsh humanitarian conditions that are not suitable for human life. We find it difficult to provide water. The tent does not protect from the summer heat or the winter cold. Now my children have allergies in their bodies due to the extreme heat. We are now suffering from a shortage of food, water, clothes ,medicine and providing basic needs for children. We want to provide food, milk, vegetables and fruits for the children, as their prices are very high. Mira and Aisha lost their future and education during this war. My children have also missed their classes, and we need to enroll them in private schools, which are rare and charge high fees. We want to provide a beautiful life for my children. Also, the prices of cleaning products are very high and we cannot provide them, especially at this time when we need them badly.
We have been displaced more than 12 times. Displacement and moving from one place to another exhaust us financially and psychologically, and require a lot of money to replace the necessities and items we lose. Currently, we are being threatened with being forced to move to southern Gaza. This means we need to cover transportation costs, and we may lose our belongings again. We will also need money to purchase supplies when we move to southern Gaza. My children have also missed their classes, and we need to enroll them in private schools, which are rare and charge high fees. Gaza has become unlivable, and if the war continues for another period, we are seriously considering traveling and seeking asylum abroad. This will cost each family member $5,000 to arrange travel with a travel agency, in addition to $2,000 in airfare fees. A total of $7,000 per person. For five people, at least $35,000 USD.
Life in Gaza has become extremely expensive, and the fees for withdrawing money from exchange offices and merchants are very high due to the war conditions.
Our goal is to raise enough funds to help Hassan Shakshak and his young family in Gaza to get them the money they need for humanitarian assistance and to evacuate and relocate to safety if possible due to the crisis.
