Story

We are good friends of George (Jorge), aka “Cheapo Felipo,” the silver and cigar beach salesman as most of you from the CRT would know him. He had a severe stroke in late February which left him in the ICU and on a ventilator. He ended up with a tracheotomy after fighting a bad infection and was released recently from the hospital after many months in the ICU (and still in critical condition). He was home for a week being taken care of by his wife and ended up back in the hospital again where he passed away after a very long tough fight for his life. He passed last night about 11 pm. He is survived by his wife Rosita, son Alan, daughter Bianca, and his grandchildren, who he was very devoted to and loved with all his heart. He was a man who was very proud of his family! They all live together in the home that he built himself! He gave back to his community by coaching a boys’ football (soccer) team and buying shoes and clothes at the flea market for the kids who didn’t have tennis shoes to play on his team. He and his wife Rosita shared their home with their son, daughter, their spouses, and his beautiful grandbabies. We were honored a few years ago to be invited to a meal at their home in Cancun with his whole family. It was a special occasion for us! Many of you from the CRT family know him as the funny, hat-wearing, always bartering silver guy! The CRT was HIS beach, and he was proud of that! He made a lasting impression on SO many friends (customers lol) from the CRT that he looked forward to seeing again and again, year after year! He spoke 5 different languages (self-taught) to be able to communicate with the different travelers he met there and considered everyone a friend! We have known George for 17-18 years, many years of different circumstances. When they were required to stay locked inside their homes during Covid, we would FaceTime him to make sure he had enough food for his growing family. I remember they were down to black beans at one point. He did not want his family to grow hungry! We found a way to help him then. But this is so much more need for his FAMILY than what was needed before. There are many medical bills that aren’t covered for that many months in the hospital. His wife had to quit her job to be a full-time caretaker for his many needs. A hospital bed had to be set up for him at home. They needed medical supplies. They needed medications. They needed equipment to help him. And now that he has passed, it brings up more costs with planning a family funeral and giving him the end-of-life celebration that he deserves and all the costs associated with that. We are hoping that his story of friendships with so many of you will be told over and over again and many will be compelled to help out his family who truly need your love and financial support to get back on their feet! ANY amount will help them. PLEASE let’s help him help the family that he loved with all his heart ❤️! All funds will be sent to his wife Rosita to help with medical bills, funeral expenses, and future needs for their grandchildren. Please share this through as many of the CRT friends and family you can think of. Dale will stay in contact with Rosita to make sure she gets 100% of what is donated by you all through this GoFundMe campaign. Thanks for reading this and hopefully sharing this so more people will hear about George’s passing and would like to help his family who truly are in need in Mexico. There has no date set for a funeral (final burial) as of yet……we just put a date the end of June for now
