We are here to listen to individual journey’s, provide information and up to date research, support those suffering from GBS and their families financially and emotionally improving their quality of your life and help get those affected back to their normal self as soon as possible.
What is Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS)?
Guillain Barre pronounced (Ghee-lan Barré) is an acute disorder of the peripheral nerves, the immune system starts attacking itself, causing weakness and paralysis of the limbs.
The first symptoms are usually pins and needles or numbness beginning in the toes and fingers. Legs feel heavy and wooden, arms feel limp and hands cannot grip properly. GBS is very painful and if not diagnosed quickly can shut down your respiratory system causing death. There is no cure only treatments to aid recovery treatment includes plasma exchange or (IVIG). GBS patients should receive one of these treatments as soon as diagnosed (within 24-48 hrs at most). The longer the delay in starting treatment, the less likely it is to be effective.
