My name is Megan, and I’m raising funds for Baraa Ayyad and her young family in Gaza. Baraa is three months pregnant and severely malnourished. She and her one-year-and-ten-month-old daughter, Hanaa, are struggling to survive under the most brutal conditions.
Her husband, who suffers from diabetes, frequently falls into dangerous hypoglycaemic episodes due to lack of proper food. They can’t afford flour, sugar, or even basic nutrition. Baraa’s own blood levels are dangerously low, and she is constantly in and out of the hospital. She takes multiple medications during her pregnancy that she cannot afford, costing her 300 shekels for tablets and 80 shekels for blood sugar test strips. Her daughter Hanaa also suffers from malnutrition and has been hospitalised.
They live in a tent next to her sister’s destroyed house. With no proper nappies for Hanaa, Baraa tries to manage using nylon and tape. Even keeping clean is a struggle. Despite everything, Baraa’s strength is unwavering.
