Please help me and thousands of others like me to cope with an invisible disability

I am a 26-year old PhD student at Oxford University suffering from severe clinical depression and anxiety. I know it is very easy to say that everyone gets sad or “depressed”. This is not that, this is perpetually in the background and acutely debilitating with its ups and downs. During a severe depressive bout, it can become almost impossible for me to get out of bed let alone leave the house. Panic attacks tend to occur immediately before a depressive bout and the only way to describe the whole experience is some kind of a hell

It took me 5 years studying here before I felt comfortable enough to discuss this & seek help. Now three years later by going public I want to help de-stigmatise this debilitating affliction and the topic of mental health in general.

It has long been recognised that dogs and in particular assistance dogs can be remarkably effective for people suffering from severe depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. They provide unconditional love of course, but so much more than that…

Psychiatric assistance dogs need expert and lengthy training. They need to become deeply attuned to the owner’s state of mind and alert them before panic attacks or depressive episodes. These incredible dogs can alleviate or curtail these via medically proven deep pressure therapy. Similarly, they can be trained to interrupt self-harming behaviours or suicidal ideas

Such dogs could also help the economy and save the NHS billions… some (perhaps surprising) facts & figures:

BUT NOW THERE IS HOPE- PADs ANGELS IS A NEW INITIATIVE FROM PADS FOUNDATION TO BRING TRAINED PSYCHIATRIC SERVICE DOGS TO THE UK

For more details about Little Angels please see their website http://www.littleangelsservicedogs.org/

A psychiatric assistance dog will change my life and change the lives of many people like me who are also struggling with and trapped by their own invisible disabilities.

Please help me raise funds for Little Angels Service dogs through PADs ANGELS. Each £20,000 raised will fund a dog. All money donated will go to help fund psychiatric assistance dogs in the UK

I need to raise £20,000 (US $28,000) before I can be placed with my ‘little angel’. Please can you give me and others like me the hope of living a happy, productive and fulfilling life?

IF YOU ARE DONATING IN US DOLLARS YOU MAY PREFER TO DONATE DIRECT TO LITTLE ANGELS VIA THEIR WEBSITE http://www.littleangelsservicedogs.org/ QUOTING MY SOLICITATION CODE: AP-AU-LU
