Help Dala in Gaza
Australia
Note: This campaign is in Australian Dollars, not US Dollars. Every $10 AUD is worth a little over $6 USD.
Dala’s story: “My children, my husband and I were living a happy and comfortable life in a beautiful house. We had a car and my husband was receiving his salary and we lived a happy life.
I have six children and their father is missing. I am 30 years old and my children are young and need their father. When the brutal war came, our lives were destroyed and turned into a miserable and sad life. I lost my husband and then my daughter was injured and my house and car were destroyed.
We have no income and now we live in a torn tent. The heat kills us in the summer, insects and diseases, and in the winter the cold kills us and the rain falls on our heads. We have no food and my little daughter is a year and a half old. I cannot buy her diapers or milk. She is malnourished and a contagious rash has spread on her body. My injured daughter lost her hand and her joy. I cannot buy her treatment and poor things.
My six children and I live a life of fear and hunger. We are starving, in pain and sad. Please help me.”
Note from Shaun: Dala’s nephew, Yousef, approached me and asked if I would host a fundraiser for his aunt. Yousef is a lawyer and student, with his full ID posted online, supporting his disabled brother and family. At first I declined as I was already helping 2 other families, but there was no one else to create a fundraiser.
I have spoken with Dala on video, seen her and her family and the conditions they are living in, her ID, and her daughter’s skin disease. They are in desperate need of support. All payment receipts will be posted online here for transparency: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1cWoqyYSgxrVMMHlNV95Xd9ansGr81h1F
Hi all,
Dala was previously getting up to 8-11 donations a day, absolutely necessary to feed 6 children when the withdrawal fee in Gaza is up to 52% (if I send her $100, she pays a fee of $52 of that $100) and flour is hundreds of US dollars a kilo. Unfortunately, Twitter deleted her account without notice. As you can see she immediately stopped receiving donations–in the past 8 days, she’s only received one. She’s had to start all over, without the followers or donors she amassed on social media.
This is her only list of donors who might be able to help her.
Also, the cost of goods has dropped sharply in Gaza. As another Palestinian reported, “Before, 200 shekels wasn’t enough to buy a kilo of flour. Now it’ll buy a kilo of sugar, a liter of syrup, cheese, a piece of canned meat, and a kilo of rice.” This is an incredible chance to alleviate Dala’s family’s hunger and get some calories into them. But only if Dala can compete with everyone else buying up goods while they are cheap.
Can you spare some money to help Dala at this time?
