Help for Hedgehogs

In autumn 2017 Julie and her daughter Sarah were enjoying a day out when they saw a very small hedgehog running across a road in front of them. Knowing that such a small hedgehog shouldn’t be out in the day on its own they decided to to to step in and help. After catching the little hoglett and popping her in a cardboard box Julie rang her local vet who put her in touch with Irene at Furness Hedgehog Rescue. Julie and her daughter Sarah left the little hoglett in Irene’s expert care where she was treated for a lung worm infection and malnourishment. Over the winter and spring Irene nursed the precious little hog along with over 70 more in her own home – something which she has been doing for over 12 years. Irene’s dedication and love for these endangered little creatures is outstanding. Irene relies entirely on donations from the public to help these sick, injured and vulnerable baby hedgehogs. The money raised by Julie taking part in the 2018 Great North Run will provide vital funding to help Irene in her work saving these beautiful endangered creatures. The 13.1 half marathon from Newcastle to South Sheilds takes place on September 9th 2018 your donation and support will make a difference in saving the species.
