On May 19th Kalieana Walters (Kk) visited the school nurse because of severe chest pain. From school Kalieana was dismissed and immediately went to the emergency room at Cape Cod Hospital and after hours of immense chest pain in the waiting room was seen by a doctor.
Here at the hospital after an MRI and more, she was told that her heart was causing the pain. Eventually, because of the severity of the medical event, Kk was transported by ambulance to Boston Children’s Hospital and admitted into the cardiac ICU. Here she was told her troponin levels were 2,500 ng/L and doctors informed Kalieana that she not only had a heart attack once, but twice prior to arriving. She was diagnosed with Myopericarditis and Myocarditis which incited the heart attacks.
She was later released from the hospital, but shortly after had immense chest pain and was again transported to Boston Children’s Hospital where she was again admitted into the Acute Cardiac Care Unit. They have not been able to provide much in the way of answers as to why Kalieana is experiencing this excruciating level of pain the second time.
Please help Kalieana on the way to recovery as she will need assistance with medical bills. In addition to these bills, Kk has nearly been out of work for two weeks and her single mother has missed time at work to attend to Kalieana’s medical needs. Kalieana works two jobs and pays her own car insurance, so the time she has already missed and the additional time she will be out in order to recover will result in financial loss for her. There will be many more visits to Boston doctors and more testing to be done.
