Help Our Beloved “L.D.” Fight for His Life
Story
“L.D.” is an inspiring, devoted, and deeply humble sobriety YouTuber who is facing a serious new crisis in his fight against end-stage liver disease. He is 45 years old and has been completely sober since May 16, 2022.
In honor of L.D.’s recent third sobriety anniversary and in light of his serious health situation, I am launching this fundraiser. Please watch the following video for more details about it:
If you’ve watched L.D.’s channel (www.youtube.com/@liverdisease-qb6rk), you know the kind of person he is: honest, generous, compassionate, and tireless in his support for those affected by alcohol use disorder (AUD), either in themselves or loved ones. Through 500 personal, often raw videos—and through countless off-channel conversations with viewers—he has helped thousands find strength, direction, and sobriety.
Now, he urgently needs our help.
L.D.’s transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), which helps relieve dangerous pressure in his liver’s blood vessels, is once again critically blocked. After three grueling procedures in late 2024 and early 2025, two hospitals have declined to attempt another repair. Blood flow through the TIPS now depends on small collateral vessels that cannot adequately compensate. This puts him at high risk for internal bleeding, ascites, and mental deterioration.
L.D. is currently seeking additional medical opinions and potential interventions. But this process has not been smooth or fruitful so far, and the toll—financial, physical, and emotional—is severe. He has been unable to work full-time since becoming ill, and his family faces mounting uncovered medical expenses and daily living costs.
This fundraiser is organized by me, a longtime subscriber. It is a private, subscriber-led effort undertaken with the awareness and consent of his family.
My goal is to ensure that donations to this fundraiser retain their gift status and are not considered business income—as are donations to L.D.’s YouTube channel. Therefore, L.D. and his channel will not be involved in any aspect of promoting or running this fundraiser. This is a deliberate decision to protect L.D.’s financial interests.
In line with this approach, all funds will be privately conveyed to “Mrs. L.D.” to assist with medical costs, insurance, and essential living expenses. L.D. and Mrs. L.D.’s involvement in the fundraiser will be limited to periodically acknowledging receipt of funds on this page.
