Help Pete Maxwell and his family!!
Story
Hey guys, this is Terry. I’ve never done this before, so go easy.
I’m sending this to you because, like me, you’ve probably been golfing at South Riding Golf Course for some time, and throughout that time, I’m pretty sure you’ve had the privilege of both meeting and being served by Mr. Pete Maxwell. Pete has been in charge of the food and beverages at SRGC for several years and does everything he can to make the 19th hole as enjoyable as possible. On the weekends, he usually makes something special for everyone (free of charge), and on Wednesday night league nights, he makes sure we all get a great meal! But it goes beyond that. He goes out of his way to make sure EVERYONE feels special. He’s a friend to everyone!!
A couple of years ago, Pete got a cut on his foot, which developed into an infection that turned septic. He ended up being sent by ambulance to Stone Springs Hospital, and after spending two weeks there, he was transferred to Georgetown Hospital, where he spent another month receiving treatment from a team of specialists. At that time, his family had no idea whether he would make it or not. Pete and his wife, Stacie, live in Stone Ridge and have three kids. Their son, Chase, still lives with them. Their middle daughter, Lexie, will be a sophomore at JMU this fall, and their oldest daughter, Rachel, lives in Tennessee.
After his time in the hospital, Pete did what he always does and went back to work while still battling this illness. As you may have noticed, it has really taken a toll on his body, but he never complains and just goes about his business taking care of us regardless of how bad he feels. However, now the disease has spread to his organs, which have been severely damaged. He was approved to receive a liver transplant through Georgetown Hospital last week. He has health insurance through the golf course, but as I’m sure you’re aware, this will not cover everything, and it’s anyone’s guess how long it will take until a donor liver becomes available. He and his family need our help!!
Aside from all of this, Pete has a dream of setting SRGC up as a fine dining establishment. He worked for several years prior to his time at SRGC at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and is a phenomenal chef. His plan initially was to start with single nights like a prime rib night by invitation to get things started and eventually do this throughout all the Wingfield-owned courses. But none of this can happen unless he gets through this next phase, which will be a tremendous challenge for both him and his family.
We live in a very affluent area where we spend money without thinking about it. I’m asking you to think about it this time and understand the gravity of the situation Pete is in. We have the opportunity to really help someone who truly deserves it. I know if we pull together, we can really make a life-changing difference in this family’s lives.
Thank you for anything you would be willing to do to help!
