Help Rob Neary Beat Cancer

In mid January, 2018, beloved Son and Brother, best Uncle and favorite Cousin, Rob Neary, was diagnosed with stage III esophageal cancer after increasing difficulty and then finally inability to swallow solid food. His treatment plan was weekly chemo with daily radiation, then surgery to remove the the tumor blocking his esophagus. Surgery occurred in early May and he was hospitalized for over a month due to multiple complications. Rob finally came home in mid June. A quick recovery was expected; he is young (just 46) after all. But Cancer is unpredictable; most recently, after excruciating lower back pain, more bad news- the cancer has spread to the lower spine. Bone cancer. Rob had additional radiation treatment, and the road ahead is unknown, but we remain ever hopeful.

Like so many Americans who are minimally insured, the financial hardships faced directly as a result of unforeseen illness have hit Rob and his wife, Gayle, very hard. They are struggling with bills they have no way to pay for, and Gayle has been researching to find funding sources, grants, anything to pay for necessary medical care. She’s doing this while caring for her husband, going to work full time as a para-ed, as well as her dance/theater business. Rob worked as long as he could but sadly, in May, he was let go from his position as residential caretaker of a condo complex. Rob was left jobless, and they were also to leave the residence that was attached to this position within 30 days. Moving day took place just after his chemo & radiation sessions were complete & two days before Rob’s massive surgery to remove the tumor and re-structure his esophagus. To say this was a stressful time would be a gross understatement. There was no medical or disability benefit, and no severance. Rob remains unable to work as he is on a feeding tube 20 hours a day, and has lost over 90 lbs, he is very frail. So, we are reaching out to you, our friends and family…and your friends and family, and their friends and family.

We are so fortunate to live in a time when we can hold out our hat on behalf of those who we love so much and who are so desperately in need. We are making a plea to you, our virtual community. We hope you can help Rob and Gayle in any way you are able. Even the smallest contribution is so appreciated.

Please spread this link far and wide. All of the money raised will go to their living and medical expenses to ease this strenuous battle with cancer. Please note that there is also an option to subscribe a regularly occurring amount on a monthly basis. Just 200 people giving $10/month could cover Rob & Gayle’s rent!
