Saja was a university student before the recent intensification of the occupation’s seventy-year genocide. She now provides psychological support for displaced children at a camp. Here is her story:

“My name is Saja Ayman Hassan Abu Rida. I’m (22) years old.

The war destroyed our lives and youth. I studied psychology at Al-Aqsa University. I volunteered in shelter centers and did a lot of teaching to children, but I was not able to complete my charitable initiative because of the lack of needs.

I am now in the city of Rafah after being displaced for the fifth time from my town. After the occupation bombed our house, which was our only shelter, we live in a tent that does not protect us from the cold of winter. We die of hunger and poverty all the time, and the genocide has not stopped.

My family consists of 7 members, ages 55, 48, 21, 25, 17, 15, and 26. I have a sister who suffers from a chronic illness, and during the war she lost her health due to poor nutrition.

We want to evacuate because the occupation is about to invade the city of Rafah. We will be displaced for the sixth time. We will be displaced and we will not find a shelter for ourselves.”

Funds will go towards winterizing Saja’s family’s tent, basic necessities like flour (which is very hard to come by and EXTREMELY expensive), and eventually evacuation.
