Help Samar and Her Family Survive the Genocide
United States
This fundraiser was created to help save five precious lives in Gaza – Ahmed, Samar, Hala, Tala, and Muhammad.
Like countless other Palestinian families, they have been forced from their homes, their schools, and their workplaces under threat of constant bombardment and displacement. They left their home on October 13th with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and are unable to return. Almost one year since the beginning of the genocide, the family has held onto life despite the impossible odds.
Your donation will help them in their struggle for survival – both to cover the enormous costs of accessing what little food there is in Gaza, and to help cover exit fees once the Rafah border crossing opens.
Please share widely and donate generously – it means the world to Samar and her family, both in Palestine and in the United States.
Below are some stories from the past ten months, in Samar’s own words:
“My eldest daughter Hala is one of the top students in her school. She was supposed to finish high school this year with a grade that would qualify her to study medicine, which she had dreamed of since childhood. But then the unexpected happened – the brutal war – to destroy her hopes, school, and ambitions. Hala has many hobbies: volleyball, folk dabke, programming, creative writing, learning English, and others. She recently entered Oxford to take the IELTS, which would qualify her to obtain scholarships in many fields, but due to the heavy bombing, the Oxford building in Mushtaha Tower was destroyed. The academy she goes to to practice volleyball was destroyed. Everything that Hala had hoped for was destroyed. Now, there is nothing she can do in Gaza after losing everything, but she hopes to travel abroad to complete her educational journey. I hope you will support her and her siblings.”
“One day during the difficult war, at eleven o’clock at night, a building next to us was targeted, but we thought we were the ones targeted due to the intensity of the bombing. Shrapnel, stones and glass flew on our heads in the middle of pitch darkness and dark dust. We were all terrified and shocked by the horror of the situation. The remains were everywhere. No one pulled out a complete corpse. They were all remains. We could not bear the horrific scenes. The smell of blood was everywhere. The next day, my children got a fever and severe pain in their bones. They stayed in the hospital. Their hearts could not bear the harsh scenes and the intense bombing. Let’s not forget the drones that fire at us daily. We have escaped death many times, but its obsessions still haunt us. Here in Gaza, we are all exposed to death at any moment. We carry our souls on our palms. There is no security or stability here.”
*Please note – due to GoFundMes restrictions on Palestinian/Gaza related fundraisers, the family has made the decision to move the fundraiser to Chuffed. The initial post can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-evacuate-my-cousin-and-his-family-from-gaza
The family has raised $10,000 to go towards evacuation fees to Egypt once the border crossing reopens from their previous GFM, but this is not enough to evacuate the entire family. The costs is $5,000 per adult & children over 16, $2,500 per child under 16–bringing the fees to $22,500. In addition, the family will need living expenses once they arrive to Egypt.
Salah and his boys <3 Hi everyone, Thank you so much for donating to the campaign - Samar and her family have repeatedly expressed how much your support means to them. I wanted to share a message directly from Hala, Samar's daughter. Even in the midst of genocide, Hala is doing her best to continue her studies, and your support has helped make that possible. "Dear donors, I greatly appreciate your efforts and assistance. It is my pleasure to contact you and thank you. Sending you all the love and respect from the heart of steadfast Gaza. Every dollar makes a big difference. I hope we reach the goal and raise the full donations to achieve the desired outcome and leave Gaza, ensuring our present and future survival. All my love and appreciation to you." Please consider sharing this fundraiser with your broader networks. Again, thank you for your support of Samar's family. Anonymous
