Greetings / Asalamu alaikum,

We are a group of friends in the US who are supporting our friend Bara’a, a 29-year-old woman living in Gaza with her family of six. Before October 2023, Bara’a lived as a scientist and entrepreneur in her hometown of Rafah. She and her friends had recently launched a small eco-business called BioCoffee–upcycling used coffee grounds into organic fertilizer for farmers and hobbyists. Supporting her family in an environmentally-friendly way was Bara’s pride and joy. Profits from the business helped renovate her family home, which had been damaged during a previous war. The idea of upcycling–turning old into new, making something from nothing–is a hallmark of Palestinian life.

But, by December 2023, the entire building was reduced to rubble. The impact, in her own words:

“I am one of those whose home used to be a place of refuge and safety… And today? My home is no longer a home—it was completely wiped out. Every corner held a memory, my family’s laughter, years of hard work—everything is now under the rubble.”

Bara’a and her family are now displaced, living day-to-day in a plastic tent in the Al-Mawasi refugee camp. Despite the Israeli government’s claims that this is a “safe zone” for evacuees, there are constant airstrikes and, recently, ground tank assaults on the camp. Bara’a, having special dietary needs, faced malnutrition earlier than most and has been in and out of the hospital with gastroenteritis.

“We are struggling to survive under dire conditions. Living in a thin plastic tent in harsh weather, we lack even the basic necessities. It is hard for me to find the words to describe what we face every day in Gaza: no food, no medicine, no clean drinking water, scarcity, psychological pressures, doubts, and daily shocks due to the loss of loved ones.”

Please help us raise funds for Bara’a and her family by donating to this campaign and sharing it with your networks today.

The immediate need is for food and water. With virtually all structures–physical, social, financial–having collapsed, accessing what meager rations being allowed in is unbelievably difficult in Gaza. Throughout the genocide, Bara’a has had to decide whether to withdraw money for daily needs or to bank it for the future hope of borders reopening, allowing the family to evacuate Gaza. At this time, there is nothing left to bank and virtually all funds have been exhausted.

“Today, I’m not just asking for financial help–I’m asking for a humanitarian stand. Any support, no matter how small, makes a difference. It brings hope to a child and puts a roof over the heads of a family that has no one but God and the conscience of kind people.”

Thank you for your kind support!
