About 2 years ago, welbot began a long journey down the road of ill health when doctors discovered a cyst in his head. This made him unable to work due to extreme dizziness, constant muscle spasms, and random bouts of narcolepsy.

After a year or so, they finally removed the cyst, but near the end of his recovery, he became very ill again. Monnths later, after another surgery, they discovered ulcers all through his stomach. Many months of treatment eventually began to show improvments, when yet more issues began to surface. He was diagnosed with costochondritis, which is normally teated with anti-inflammatory’s, but due to the stomach ulcers, this was not an option. While not a constant issue, due to not being able to receive proper treatment, it keeps coming back, and pain management is the only option.

On top of that, he was diagnosed with encephalitis (infection in the brain) as a result of cytomagalovirus esophagitis. It’s suspected this may have developed as a result of the cyst removal.

This in turn lead to the infection getting in to a crack/hole in his skull (result of a fall as a child) which made the hole bigger, and began leaking fluid. After another wait, they operated to plug the hole, but during the process, the edges of the hole were found to be so fragile, they dissintegrated, so they hole became even bigger. They patched it temporairily, and now he needs a new scan so they can make a permanent plug for another operation. In the meantime, his random bouts of narcolepsy have returned, is constantly plagued by intense headaches lasting for days on end, costochondritis that just won’t go away, and if that wasn’t enough, he cracked a tooth as well, making it very difficult to drink/eat.

Having been out of work for 2+ years, all his savings are gone, his credit card is full, and due to his only income (sickness benefit from the govt.) only just covers his rent and electricity, he’s in dire need of a bit of help, not only to stay afloat and connected to the internet, but most importantly, be able to buy medication and to get the scan needed to fix the hole in his head. It’s going to take around $3000 to cover the medical expenses and keep him afloat long enough to get it fixed, and anything over and above that will help make his recovery a little less stressful 🙂

Seriously, if there is any way that you could spare a dollar or more without putting yourself in financial hardship it would be appreciated. If you could buy one less coffee this month but instead donate, it would help even more.

Well, other than doing a good thing for someone who needs it, if the campaign reaches it’s stated goal in the stated time, I will personally donate US$50 to one donor. This will be in the form of a Paypal transaction into your nominated Paypal account. The lucky donor will be randomly drawn from the pool of public donors where each full dollar donated gives one ‘entry’ into the draw.

Cheers, JAYTEE

@Welbot is a valued member of the 3D printing community who has been struggling with medical bills on top of feeling very ill. We donated to help him out, if you are able to help too, I know he will very much appreciate it.
