Dear compassionate souls,

My name is Adel Al-Areer, and I send this heartfelt appeal with a heavy heart, seeking your help in our dire hour of need. Some of you may remember my brother Refaat Al-Areer, a well known writer and professor, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on December 6. Before he was killed, Refaat wrote: “If I must die, you must live, to tell my story”

All of our existence has been ravaged by the relentless onslaught of the ongoing war. In addition to losing Refaat, we also lost three other siblings, and five nieces/nephews. And then, on April 26, an Israeli airstrike killed Refaat’s daughter, her husband and their newborn baby in their home. My family and I were plunged once again into devastating grief.

Once a sanctuary of love and warmth, our home now lies in ruins. Displaced, we cling to the hope of a better future for our family. While we struggle to bring that future about, we are so grateful for you in helping us to survive.

Your donations support my family of six, which includes myself, my wife, and our four children.

With profound gratitude and unwavering faith in the inherent goodness of humanity,

Adel Al-Areer

Dear all,

Thank you for your recent support. As you may know, some food has started to enter Gaza, but not enough to meet the immense need. Below is an update from Adel:

“The situation is still catastrophic. Food is available but the prices are not good.

This is a picture of some of the things I bought today, but it is not enough to feed a family of 6.”

Given how high prices are, the generous donations you have provided are still crucial. If you are able to donate again or share the link with others, it will make a difference. Thank you again for your kindness.

Dear ,

I am a friend of Adel Al-Areer and writing on his behalf due to the poor internet in Gaza. Thank you for your continued support of their family.

Adel asked me to write an update with this message: “My family and I are in the worst days of our lives. This is in brief.”

If you can, please consider giving once more or sharing the campaign link.

Thank you for your support and being a light in this darkness.

I’m writing to share an illustration with you. This is what my lovely daughter Seela drew today. Seela is eight. I initially thought she was drawing spring flowers with butterflies dancing around. No. When I came nearer to her and saw the drawing, I realized she was drawing the anguish inside her. She just drew our de facto reality. She told me she translated rockets raining on a family home, killing both parents and blowing their little one away, to suffer from loneliness and orphanage later. The one standing aside is injured by the rocket, calls the ambulance and begs the medics to save his life. I couldn’t help hide my tears. Our kids should be dreaming of a better, safer future. Our kids dream unfortunately of fear and pain from the falling missiles. All of this fear in my little daughter, I said to myself. I wish my kids could lead a better life like all other children in the world. This should be the story. We don’t want to be the story.

I also have to share that Seela is sick right now. We are doing our best to help her rest and recover, but there is no medication available, very little food and water, and chaos all around us.

Thank you for keeping your hearts open and helping us. If you are able to donate again, we deeply appreciate it, as this campaign has become our lifeline as the situation grows worse.

Yours,

Adel Al-Areer
