Herb Lattin Obituary
Herbert George Lattin of Silver Bay, MN, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on May 19th, 2025. He was 64 years old.
Herb was born on July 5th, 1960 in San Francisco, California to Margery (McMurray) and Glenn Lattin. He moved to Connecticut with his parents when he was five. He graduated in 1978 from Stratford High School with his sweetheart and future wife. Growing up, he was constantly curious, developing a passion for all things science, technical theater, and reading.
He and Susan married on June 16th, 1979 and together, raised 14 children. He turned to his Creator for salvation and was baptized in 1981. This decision altered the rest of his life and his eternal destiny.
Herb and Susan moved from Connecticut to the North Shore in 1994, where he became a well-loved member of the community. His hospitality, kindness, and sense of humor were always on display whether he was managing the Silver Bay Dairy Queen or working the front counter at resorts up and down the Shore. “Santa Herb” loved his team at Cove Point Lodge, and their mutual care was evident even in his last moments.
With his family, Herb started “Wits’ End Corner” in Beaver Bay, a bakery, deli, and bulk food store that served the community and visitors for almost a decade.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Amber, Gillian, Dru (Lisl), Adam (Susana), Abbey (Arlyn) Martin, Noah (Carolyn), Hannah, Benjamin (Rachelle), Abram (Kinzee), Naomi, Timothy (Heather), Gideon, Miriam (Malcolm) Milligan, and Emilee; and 21 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Roger and David.
Please join us in celebrating his life at the Beaver Bay Community Center, anytime between 10:00 and 2:00 on Saturday, May 24th.
Memorial gifts can be sent in Herb’s memory to Answers in Genesis, a ministry dear to him. Gifts to cover expenses around his death are also welcome and can be sent through GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/c8159389
