I want to help kick Cancer’s arse by raising money for research

It’s pretty simple really. My Mum died from Cancer which I’ll be honest was pretty crap, then someone else very close to me and my family died of cancer. My family is 2 for 2. Well that’s not good enough so I want to try and do my bit. It will be 5 years next year since Mum passed away and I want to celebrate her Birthday on Nov 6th 2019 by having raised $5,000 for cancer Research.

Research, it’s not sexy but it’s where we will find the cure. The US Government (National Cancer Institute) invests about $5 Billion dollars a year in research. The Pharmaceutical and Drug companies spend about $50 Billion a year on research & creating new drugs, which we then pay $107 Billion a year for!!!! There is a huge disparity and we need to right the ship a little. In the UK, Cancer Research spent GBP 432 million of which none was from Government sources but all donated.

I’m not going to pretend my efforts are anything other than a minute speck in the fight against cancer but I feel I have to try so I’ve set myself a target of $5,000 by my Mum’s birthday Nov 6th 2019.

I will be doing everything I can to raise this and I hope you can help in anyway you can afford. Every Dollar, Pound, Euro (yes ill take anything!) will help and every cent goes DIRECTLY to Cancer Research through Medical University of South Carolina Hollings Cancer Center, a NCI Designated Cancer Center and also The James Cancer Center (NCI)

this is my plan for the next 18 months …..

I’ll be riding a 100 miles at Pelotonia in August and aiming to raise $2,000 for The James Cancer Center

then

Raise another $500 to ride one of the 45 min sessions at the Annual Jerry Zucker Indoor Ride for Hope in November.

MY PROMISE …… (and to prove how much I want to raise this money) and I’ll regret this

but, if I raise $1,000 by the event on November 11th 2018, I’llI commit to riding EVERY session. Last year that was 4 1/2 hours of riding and we plan to go bigger this year.

then

Raise $2,000 and do another 100 miles in a HUGE event (TBA!!!) in November 2019 that will be the culmination of my fundraising.
