Instead, you live in Aleppo, Syria’s largest and most historic city. Not long ago, your life was normal – even beautiful. Your husband had a steady job – enough to provide a comfortable life for you and your three young children.
Then, everything changes. Wave after wave of bombing devastates your city. It seems that it will never end. Finally, you make the difficult choice to leave everything you know and flee with your children to a crowded refugee camp in Jordan. It’s safer than Aleppo, but it’s certainly not a home.
This isn’t just an imaginative exercise though. It’s a true story that will have a happy ending as this family is now safe in Burlington.
A dynamic team of people from Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Burlington community is sponsoring them as they build a new life in Canada. With our help, they are moving into a fully furnished apartment, connecting with language training and learning about life in their new city. And the oldest child, a lively four-year-old, will start junior kindergarten before the end of February – the first milestone of their new life.
Join Us Please join members of the congregation and people from the Burlington community as we support this family of 5, with 3 young kids, for two years. Some government assistance is provided, but we must raise an additional $50,000. Along with that financial commitment, we are standing beside this family until they are self sufficient and will do so by helping them integrate into our community as they work towards independence and self-sufficiency.
