Enmity towards trans people in Iraq is so strong it leaves us all in danger of being hanged or stoned to death. I was only four years old when I encountered such hatred: there was a dress I had wanted to buy so badly I broke into tears as my mother scolded me: “You are a man, and should not wear this!”
